The present study aimed to examine the level of plant blindness (Plant Awareness Disparity) and compare it between male and female students in District 4 of Isfahan, Iran. This research was quantitative and employed a descriptive–analytical (causal-comparative) design. The statistical population included male and female upper secondary school students in District 4 of Isfahan during the 2023–2024 academic year. A total of 360 participants (180 females and 180 males) were selected using cluster random sampling. The data collection instrument was the standardized Plant Awareness Disparity Index (PAD-I), which measures five dimensions: attention to plants, attitudes toward plants, knowledge, relative interest, and experience with plants. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and an independent samples t-test and Pearson correlation analysis, in SPSS software. The results indicated that the overall mean plant awareness score among female students (75 out of 100) was significantly higher than that of male students (66 out of 100). The independent samples t-test confirmed a statistically significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.05). Significant differences were also observed in the dimensions of attention, attitude, relative interest, and experience; however, no significant difference was found in the knowledge dimension. Correlation analysis further revealed positive and significant relationships among the different dimensions of plant awareness, and experience with plants was found to be a significant predictor of attention.Based on the findings, it can be concluded that plant blindness still exists among students and is more pronounced in male students. Moreover, the results suggest that increasing knowledge alone is not sufficient to reduce this phenomenon, and experiential and affective factors play a more important role. Therefore, it is recommended that educational programs emphasize practical activities such as school gardening and nature-based learning to enhance students’ plant awareness.
